QWA Annual Gala – ‘A Night at the Oscar’s’

‘A Night at the Oscars’

Just how do the biggest organisers of Weddings and their suppliers party? Well we don’t do things by halves! The 4th Annual Queenstown Wedding Association Gala was held up at Stoneridge Estate this year and what a night it was……

I am still unsure if it was the thrill of our beautiful venue, Stoneridge Estate, the glitz, glamour and elegance of the décor, the red carpet walk that emulated ‘a night at the Oscars’– or the sequins on my dress shining in people’s eyes – but at last night’s QWA Annual Gala – there were twinkling eyes and award winning smiles on every face!

Stoneridge was transformed into a banquet hall fit for the stars’ courtesy of Jo from Pacific Linen. With her new styling and décor line of chandeliers and mirrored centre pieces, combined with the black and gold luxurious linen and chair covers, it really did feel like you were sat in The Dolby, LA!

We had the red carpet rolled out to receive the glamorous members and what outfits we had walking across it! Stunning dresses adorned the carpet with the guys looking sharp in their suits too – luckily our very own paparazzi was there to capture some of these dapper members – Carla Mitchell and her cameras kindly sponsored the event. Those that were ‘too shy’ to pose for a shot in front of Carla, were seen a little later on in the night wearing quite the obscure masks and ‘latex heads’! What an absolute blast Carla’s photo booth added to the party – although I do believe with that backdrop and my dress – it was like an episode of ‘Where’s Wally’ – thank God for the zebra head!!!

Adding to the ambiance and totally owning credit for creating the perfect mood and social atmosphere, was new member and friend Marc Hamilton from the Hamiltones. Marc played the most soulful and beautiful set for pre-dinner drinks, which was a match made for the acoustically composed Stoneridge banquet hall.

Richard from Queenstown Ice brought his artistic flare to the party with a skilfully designed QWA ice carving. Combining text, candles and flowers, he really showcased his skill and what Queenstown Ice can offer for weddings and events – a total talking point and unique display.

After dinner, our gorgeous President Tracey Maclaren gave our sponsors a huge thanks and presented them with exquisite bouquets of the most impressive gold orchids wrapped with striking golden willow and black voile – very generously supplied by the magnificent Jules and Martin from Bloom flowers.

We had a fantastic turn out to the event with 50% being new members, which I was particularly proud of as a newbie myself! It is a brilliant way of networking and putting names to faces, exposure for your business without the pressure, but above all, simply rubbing shoulders and enjoying a wine with friends in the trade that you will hopefully work with in the not so distant future. We have had a 10% increase on new members already this financial year and I can’t wait to get more people on board. The Queenstown Wedding Association is such a marvellous and beneficial little nugget of goodness that I am super proud to be a part of – and that’s coming from a very natural position in my role. You members have the opportunity to gain access to SO much of what Queenstown and the surrounding areas have to offer. We are the top of google searches and for example had over 2000 clicks onto the web home page last week!

So here’s to looking forward and planning the next party!!! Another excuse to dust off your glad rags and eat, drink and be merry, I am now onto planning the Christmas party for mid to late November, before things get too crazy and you all forget what it’s like to be on the fun side of the wedding/event! It would be fabulous to see some more of you there that could not make it to the Gala and enjoy the excuse to celebrate YOU!

If you would like to be a sponsor I would love to hear from you, we rely on you members to be involved in creating our events and making them as magical as last night! Email me at info@queenstowneddings.org with your ideas.

Lastly, on behalf of myself and the committee, thank you! Without you all we wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for your support!
