Looking out over a perfectly still Lake Wakatipu on a bright, warm sunny Monday afternoon in Queenstown, a glass of bubbles in hand – does life get better than this?
Only if we were all staying at the beautiful boutique Azur Lodge for the night, hidden in the realms of Fern Hill – we could probably say ‘NO’ – but for 4pm on a glorious spring-like September day it was certainly up there!
Celebrating the launch of our fabulous Gay Wedding Giveaway, armed with the most delicious canapes and the open fire roaring, members of the Queenstown Wedding Association that donated prizes to our biggest wedding giveaway to date, were invited up to the exclusive press launch while sipping on champagne and enjoying the stunning views of our beloved Queenstown.
The Azur team really turned on the treats, providing us with an array of beverages and a beautiful selection of canapes, from venison pop-corn to tuna sashimi we were spoilt and allowed to indulge in the pre-dinner canapes that Azur freshly make each evening to offer to their guests.
We were given the opportunity to get a sneak peek around one of their gorgeous lodge rooms, each one a stand-alone, self-contained apartment with every possible amenity you might need on your luxury escape in Queenstown – including a fully stocked complimentary mini bar including beer, soft drinks, juices, water and snacks! We were joined by Sally Whitewoods and Tracey Green of Gay Ski Week along with press from the Mountain Scene, to acknowledge the honour we have of Gay rights in New Zealand, and that Queenstown, as a wedding destination in itself is such a jaw-dropping, show-stopping bubble of beauty!
We are incredibly lucky to be able to share our piece of paradise with lucky couples that are fortunate enough to have found it and what an amazing amount of revenue the pink dollar brings into our town! It is estimated that this week alone, Gay Ski Week has pulled in over 2,000 visitors, each staying approximately 6.6 days here in Queenstown. With an average spend of $350/day, multiply that and you get an outstanding figure of approximately $4.2 million NZD!!! Whats more, we love that so many same sex couples choose our fabulous Queenstown suppliers to help them create their perfect wedding day!

Our competition has 38 of our generous QWA members involved in the prize package which is currently standing at just under $60,000NZ – a whopping win sure to be life changing for one extremely lucky same sex couple!
The opportunity to personalise the package was given to the couple by the amount of talented members we now have advertising with us on the QWA website!
With now over 170 members covering 21 categories, we wanted to extend the competition to everyone. Ensuring more than just one specialist in a particular category could be in with the chance of offering something to the package, and allowing the couple to be able to choose alternatives should the preferred vendor be unavailable during the week of GSW 2018.
The competition will run until 5pm on Tuesday the 31st of October and be drawn midday on Wednesday the 1st of November. All members involved with the competition will be notified of the winning couples names once drawn.
