QWA Member Spotlight: Philippa Thomas (celebrant)

WEDDING CELEBRANT

My name is Philippa, and I absolutely LOVE being a wedding celebrant! Every wedding is my favourite wedding, every time! I have lived in Queenstown for four years, having moved here from Wellington (and two very busy wedding seasons up there!) in August of 2015, and have been celebranting (a word I totally made up) since 2013. I love to offer a fun, relaxed and unique approach to weddings , regardless of whether they are big, small, crazy, whacky, traditional or something else entirely. No matter whether you have one guest or 1000, the most important thing is to have the wedding that you want, not the wedding you think you should have!

1. Why do you think couples should choose a Queenstown wedding?

Why not! Queenstown has something for every couple, for every wedding! Big or small, inside or outside, lakeside or up a mountain, we have it all. And with such an amazingly high calibre of vendors here to make things amazing for you, there’s no reason why you wouldn’t get married here!

2. What’s the best season for a Queenstown wedding?

The beauty of Queenstown is that every season is so different – if you are a Winter bunny like me, Winter weddings are delicious with crackling fires, snow-capped mountains and mulled wine. In Summer the days here are long and hot, perfect for cosy, outdoor ceremonies. Spring brings lambs and bright greens with lingering snow in the backdrops, and Autumn will just blow you away with the colours of the hillsides and leaves. My personal favourite? Definitely a tie between Autumn and Winter! Loves me some Autumn/Wintery goodness 🙂

3. Tell us the most unique/interesting thing you’ve seen at a Queenstown wedding…

Gosh, I could write a book about the things I’ve seen at weddings! I LOVE how every wedding is so unique and fabulous! One of my most interesting weddings has definitely got to be the time I married FOUR couples at the same time. That’s right – a quad wedding! It was absolutely chaotic in the best way, so much fun and I would 100% do it again!

4. What is your favourite Queenstown restaurant or cafe?

I don’t go out much in the evenings (#mumlife), so my favourite place to eat would have to be Cafe Society in the 5 Mile Shopping area – they do the best coconut flat whites around, their menu changes regularly and the food is always top quality delicious. It’s a fav spot for meetings and my kids go crazy for their lolly cake. If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend!

5. Tell us a random fact about yourself…

I have three sisters (no brothers!) and I’ve had the privilege of “marrying” two of them! In fact, for one sister I was the brides-celebrant-maid-MC!
